Lil's Hamburger Slop Despite the unappetizing name, this is delicious! And very flexible. Generally serves 5.
Basic Slop:
1/2 lb - 1 lb lean ground hamburg
1 can or jar of spaghetti sauce (or tomato soup with ketchup in a pinch)
1/2 onion (or to taste)
1 box Kraft Dinner
spices to taste - garlic, italian seasoning, cajun spice, etc.
Better Slop:
chopped peppers, sweet or hot or both
chopped fresh mushrooms or canned mushrooms
grated cheddar to sprinkle on each dish as served
chopped fresh tomato
kidney beans
Brown onions and hamburger. Add spaghetti sauce and simmer for quite a while, maybe 20 minutes to a half an hour. If using fresh veggies, add them when you add the sauce. If it seems a bit runny, throw in some bread crumbs. Just before serving, make Kraft Dinner (I always do it in the microwave - it only takes one dish then) and stir it in. Voila, you have slop! It's the cheese sauce in the Kraft Dinner that makes this slop so good, it's nice and creamy.
I only put kidney beans in if using a small amount of meat, for extra protein.
I had a nine-year-old guest tell me solemnly that my slop was better than her mom's slop. I laughed a lot over that one, I didn't know other people actually called their food "slop".
