A Strange Journey

Life itself is indeed a strange journey leading, as it does inevitably, to death. While the overall journey is strictly a one-way trip for each individual, so often it seems to simply go round and round in circles. And yet each person's journey is a part of a larger circle, is it not? Wheels within wheels...

Your steps may slow at times, falter or pause, or even wander off the path to private dusty detours, all of which is indeed a part of the whole. There are thorns to overcome, sights to behold and soothing cool waters. And if you are very lucky, you will encounter another traveller, one who falls into step with you, assists you over rough ground, and helps to fight the demons which cross your path. Together you can cast off the dark and create light and life, and laughter. Sometimes, shrouded in a private misery, you may feel you are still walking alone. But your partner hovers beside you, and you need only to reach out, to grasp their hand. A sharing touch will sustain you.

Sometimes the journey becomes increasingly more strange - dark and forbidding, with the frightening unknown lurking about each twist in the path. Suddenly it seems the journey is not worth it, and the load you bear grows heavier with each step. And it occurs to you how very easy it would be to just stop...to lay down your load, curl up in the dark and close your eyes, willing it all to just go away. But memories of happier times along the path spur you along, beseech you to continue, warm your thoughts and keep you moving.

And as you move through life, the footprints of your journey are as ripples in a pond echoing ever outward. You leave behind a legacy of all that you are, reflected in the eyes of your children, in the actions that you took throughout your journey, in dreams realized.

It is so short, yet takes a lifetime.
